At Roam, our goal is always to let the science speak for itself while respecting the contributions other knowledge systems make to our understanding of the natural world and our role in it. Using this balanced approach, we objectively evaluate the trade-offs associated with any management or regulatory decision imposed on a natural system and identify a path forward. One that acknowledges the needs and goals of potential resource users while minimizing cumulative effects.

Advancing Conservation and Community Goals
As a small consultancy, we can quickly adapt while remaining independent and responsive in the real-world solutions we provide. For over a decade, we’ve successfully built and leveraged our experience and connections to guide our clients through the intricacies of the Canadian environmental regulatory landscape, conducted novel research to address emerging ecological questions, and helped develop and support community-based monitoring programs, to name a few.

Responsive
Our small size means we can provide one-on-one service that is attentive, responsive, flexible, and, importantly, fully independent.

Experienced
We have worked with numerous Indigenous communities, government agencies, regulatory boards, and academic collaborators across Canada and in varied roles.

Connected
We act as a bridge between communities, governments, and academics, ensuring that complexities are understood and information is applied effectively.

Backed by Experience
Earning his Master’s Degree in Biogeography from the University of Victoria and Ph.D. from the University of Calgary, Dr. Brian Kopach’s research focused on understanding the determinants of species’ distributions at a range of spatial scales.
Since then, he has utilized this extensive experience in spatial ecology, including sampling design, data collection, and analysis, to support Indigenous communities across Canada. More specifically, in assessing, monitoring, and managing the wildlife and their habitats that support subsistence and cultural practices.
He has also led or assisted with research and conservation-related projects for public and private-sector organizations in Canada and the United States, including the Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS), Parks Canada, the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and Ducks Unlimited.
